¡Hola de Costa Rica!

HI! It’s almost been three weeks since I left the states and wow time is weird. Some days it feels like I’ve been here for months, and some days it feels like its been two days. Costa Rica is beautiful – my team and I have been living and working on a farm in a pretty rural area which means lots of wildlife and limited interaction with the outside world. It’s a dream. 

I want to tell you about what life looks like here, but the reality is everyday looks pretty different from the one before and that’s a little hard to communicate. SO I’m going to do my best to tell you about our ministry host and give a little glimpse into all the different things we do here. 

Our hosts are Tony and Rosita and they are two of the kindest people I’ve ever met. They’ve been married close to 40 years and have dedicated so much of their lives to serving God and all the people they come across in their communities. I say communities plural because they are plugged into about 25 communities of kids, they have a house and church in a town called platanar, and run a farm in Los Chiles that will one day become a missionary school— for now they bring in men recovering from drug addictions to work on the farm while being discipled and prepared for their next stage of life. Their heart for everyone they meet is incredible and I feel so cared for by them. 

Tony and Rosita are super diverse in their ministry, and that means we are too! Our days here start pretty early especially on the days we‘re working on the farm. So far farm work has been a lot of clearing land, chopping wood, lots and lots of weeding, a little bit of planting, and just getting space ready for future projects. The area of land we’ve worked most on will one day have a greenhouse, but for now its just full of random building materials, fallen trees, and a lot of overgrown weeds. 

We’ve had a few days of kids ministry where we really just spent time with them. We always sing a few songs, teach them to sing Father Abraham in Spanish and then just end up playing soccer or *trying* to talk with the ones that don’t want to play. Time with them is sweet and unplanned. This probably wasn’t the most informative post, but that’s the best way I can describe our ministry here without writing a whole book.

Jesus has been so sweet in my time here. I’ve knew that He loves me, but He’s already shown me that He’s taking me into a deeper love this year. It’s exciting and painful and amazing. His love for me is so evident in all the little things that happen in my day, and is evident in big ways during my quiet time when He leads me to look at His love in a whole new light. At the end of the month I’ll try to share more about this, but for now WiFi is limited and time with my team is a priority:)
